im just trying to figure out which Anti Identity theft company is very basic in what they do, i dont want a company that sends in requests to help stop pre approval credit card offers and services that i may not want to stop or slow down

im a victim, but ive done all the damage control possible in terms of bank accounts and credit reports. im still wondering what other atrocities the thief could be planning against me.

if my credit report is flagged and he or she tries to apply for a cell phone, medical insurance, or book a flight — will i be notified?

is that credit report alert only a defense against fiscal fraud or all cases of identity theft?

So a few years ago (when i was 15) my SSN and birth certificate were stolen. Now that im trying to rent an apartment the rental company called me inquiring about a list of places that ive supposedly been evicted from based on their search of my rental history with my SSN, when Ive never lived anywhere but my parents house. I know that my identity was probably stolen but I dont understand how that works. Doesnt my SSN link up with my birthday and If I was under 18 at the time the rentals took place how could they have signed the lease? Im so confused. Just any info you know about identity theft and how it works would be great. thanks.

I had a problem with an order that I placed online, so I called the Victoria’s Secret Company to change the credit card number, and I gave them the credit card number over the phone. Am I at a high risk of identity theft?

I need help!… I was trying to get an apartment. They didn’t give it to me because they said I had applied and signed a lease with apartments in Austin in 2003 and never did any payments and owed 00 . (I have never been in Austin).
So this is Identity theft right? This National Credit company has all my information. whoever did this knew just about everything about me. I think It might of been someone I knew.
I don’t know what to do. I need to get an apartment in one month. This National Credit place takes 60-90 days to find out if it was identity theft. I do not have that much time.
What should I do? Would getting a lawyer make the process faster? Should I sue this credit place?
They also said my dad co-signed for me (yea right). however he got it off his credit. So I asked this lady how my dad got it off his credit and she said he called and since his signature is nowhere in the contract or application, he is not responsable! WHAT? then what does CO-SIGN mean?

Ok, I work for this idiot company that managed to loose track of a disk with employees names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, etc. Now that my info may be in the wrong person’s hands, what is the best way for me to avoid identity theft?
Do any companies offer any kind of comprehensive identity and credit monitoring service to catch something early and nip any problems in the bud? Are these services limited to just credit monitoring, or will they keep an eye out for other things, like someone trying to obtain a driver’s license with my personal info?
I’m really peeved by my employer’s negligence.

Does anyone use Life Lock or any other identity theft insurance company?

My husband is convinced that we need to get this. It costs 0 per person per year, and from what I gather, all they do is contact Experian, Transunion and Equifax and tell them that you suspect you might be at risk for identity theft. They provide these companies with 2 phone numbers provided by you. Then if something happens & your identity gets stolen, it’s your responsibility to call Lifelock & tell them. If you don’t, they won’t go to bat for you. If you do everything they tell you to do, they will pay for the legal fees to get your credit straightened out, up to ,000,000, but they don’t reimburse any lost money.

Is my understanding correct? If not, what am I missing?

Wouldn’t it be better to contact the 3 credit companies and put a security freeze on our credit? Yes, it’s a hassle if we actually want credit, but then no one can get credit in our name, period. No hassles with laywers and ID theft insurance, because no one can get through to the credit companies.
